Abstract

REYES-MOJENA, Miguel Ángel; SAGARO-ZAMORA, Roberto  and  CAMELLO-LIMA, Carlos Roberto. Erosive wear behavior in coatings deposited by thermal spraying technique. Ingeniería Mecánica [online]. 2016, vol.19, n.3, pp.158-166. ISSN 1815-5944.

A study of the behavior of erosive wear was performed on two cemented carbides (WC-10Co-4Cr and WC-12Co) and chromium carbides (Cr3C2-25NiCr), deposited through methods thermal spray flame at low speed (flame Spray, FS) and hypersonic (High velocity Oxygen Fuel, HVOF). In the FS method novel materials were used as a deposit in the form of cord (Flexicords, FS/FC), in order to obtain their mechanical properties and erosive wear behavior, not reported in the literature. Tribological coatings tests were performed using a slurry tribometer, using as variables speed and impact angle of the erosive particles. The surface morphology was examined using electron microscopy images (SEM), able to analyze the erosion mechanism. It was observed that the WC-Co-Cr coating (HVOF) exhibits the best erosion resistance for more severe experimental conditions. Despite the better results of HVOF coatings, those obtained with the FS/FC are an economic option for inaccessibility applications and lower cost.

Keywords : thermal spray; coating; erosive wear; HVOF.
