Se pretende con este trabajo disponer de un material con los contenidos fundamentales, que posibiliten al profesor universitario la formulación de la hipótesis para el desarrollo de una investigación, teniendo en cuenta el problema a resolver. Para su elaboración, se realizó la búsqueda de información en documentos primarios, tales como: tesis de grado e informes de resultados de investigaciones, seleccionados sobre la base de su pertinencia al tema analizado, actualidad, fiabilidad y documentos secundarios, como artículos científicos publicados en revistas de reconocido prestigio. La selección se realizó con los mismos términos que en los anteriores documentos. Se presenta una conceptualización de la hipótesis actualizada, su caracterización y un análisis de la estructura de la hipótesis en la que se profundiza en la determinación de las variables. La implicación del profesor universitario en el proceso docencia-investigación enfrenta en la actualidad algunas dificultades, las cuales se manifiestan, entre otros aspectos, en un equilibrio inestable entre docencia e investigación, que conduce a una separación entre estos.

It is intended with this work to have a material with the fundamental contents, which enable the university professor to formulate the hypothesis, for the development of an investigation, taking into account the problem to be solved. For its elaboration, the search of information in primary documents was carried out, such as thesis of degree and reports of research results, selected on the basis of its relevance with the analyzed subject, current and reliability, secondary documents, as scientific articles published in journals of recognized prestige, the selection was made with the same terms as in the previous documents. It presents a conceptualization of the updated hypothesis, its characterization and an analysis of the structure of the hypothesis in which the determination of the variables is deepened. The involvement of the university professor in the teaching-research process currently faces some difficulties, which are manifested, among other aspects, in an unstable balance between teaching and research, which leads to a separation between them.
