The objective analysis of the initial and continuing professional training of workers in today's world faces a series of challenges; among others: to achieve the availability of graduates who are competent to fulfill the functions inherent to the object of work of their profession. The objective of this article is to present a procedure for the development of professional learning tasks for the training of a competent worker. The methods of analysis and synthesis, the hypothetical-deductive, document review, system approach, observation, the pedagogical pre-experiment and the Chi-square statistical test (X 2 ) are used . As a sample, the students of medium technician in Industrial Mechanics from the municipality of Holguín, Cuba, were part of the research, in which the improvement of learning results as competent workers was demonstrated. The result can be generalized at a national and international level according to the characteristics of the teaching-learning process, aimed at the professional training of workers. A consensus is reached that the application of the procedure contributes to improving the quality of professional training (initial or continuous) of competent workers.
