HERRERA LEON, Lorenzo I.. The fetal- infant mortality and under 5 years in Cuba: 2000-2010. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2015, vol.11, n.22. ISSN 1817-4078.
The fetal stage is vital to the development and welfare of the human being, that is why the main objective of this work is to analyze the evolution of the fetus and infant mortality and under-five years during the decade 2000-2010, in Cuba. To achieve this objective, estimates of vital events that accompany the process of pregnancy (abortions and interruptions, pregnancies, stillbirths, and birth) were performed. Taking into account these estimations and applying linear regression statistical techniques, annual average intensities of change for the different types of mortality that affect the product of conception in the decade, were estimated (namely, fetal, infant and its components and perinatal, and less than 5 years), which allowed for comparisons. In this sense, analytical raids on the characteristics exhibited by the deaths in utero, taking into account key variables such as weight and length of gestation were performed. Stand among the most outstanding results in first place, the gap maintained by the fetal mortality with respect to infant mortality and especially the early neonatal component, and further, the upward trend in most of the study period of this relationship. As the most urgent recommendation, it is suggested to treat this point with more specificity in subsequent studies, given the possibility that violation of a basic principle is done: the one concerning the definition of live birth issued by the United Nations.
