HIDALGO GOMEZ, Arelis; ROMERO SUAREZ, Pedro  and  MARTINEZ TORRES, Carolina Luisa. Strategy of environmental communitary intervention applied to a rural community in Isla de la Juventud. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2016, vol.12, n.24. ISSN 1817-4078.

Worldwide different strategies are developed in order to minimize the negative impacts caused to the environment, involving different people who aspire to transform the environment. In Isla de la Juventud (Cuba), there are still few the practices that are carried out to maintain the society-ecosystem balance, and it is necessary to achieve the link between research and citizen participation in all processes. For that reason, a community intervention strategy was developed and applied in a rural community in four stages. In the first stage the results of the diagnosis were obtained, in the second one an Environmental Education Program was elaborated and the variables to be evaluated were defined. In the third stage, the actions of this program were implemented by carrying out cultural and environmental activities, and in the fourth stage, the participation of community members increased with the achievement of good results in the eight indicators drawn.

Keywords : environmental education; rural community; strategy.
