Cienfuegos province has experienced progressive changes in its socio economic conditions. The effects on the spatial distribution of the population have attracted the interest of specialists who perform demographic analysis. In this paper, the evolution of the population and the settlements of this province were analyzed, according to census changes between the years 1981-2002-2012. For this purpose, the Gini coefficient was calculated, and the Lorenz curve, which reflected an increase in the concentration of the population that corresponds to the changes registered in the system of settlements, was plotted. The municipalities are characterized by the concentration of population and economic activities; there is little development in the rest of the settlements, where migration is the main attraction for the search for better living conditions of the population.
