Resumen

MOLINA CINTRA, Matilde de la C. Fertility in adolescence: Current notes. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2017, vol.13, n.25, pp.94-109. ISSN 1817-4078.

Demographic science is characterized by its flexibility to incorporate the methodological theoretical arsenal of other sciences. Fertility in adolescence and the family as context is one of those issues that call for multi and interdisciplinarity. The present article provides a theoretical view to the subject, it interrelates the psychological with the demographic. This new look at adolescent fertility contributes to the field of population studies, as it complements the theoretical methodological perspective in the approach to the study of adolescent fertility in Cuba and the influence of the family. Demography and psychology are then connected to the search for explanations of adolescent fertility and its determinants that, although it has been done in a general way previously, in the Cuban case, is novel to explain this particularity of Cuban fertility. In Cuba it was expected that the level of adolescent fertility would continue to fall in correspondence with the educational policy of sexuality and the intentions of the social system, but it has not been at the expected pace. This confirms the need to attend to this reality in a special way, becoming a compelling reason to consider adolescent pregnancy in Cuba as a problem.

Palabras clave : adolescent fertility; demography; family.
