This study analyzes contemporary international migrations in the Northeast region of Brazil, which historically was a zone of intense emigration. In order to do so, it discusses the main factors of immigration in the present time, considering both the traditional elements as those coming from the processes of globalization and technological advances. It then contextualizes the migration in that region, pointing out that, over the last two centuries, it has been characterized as an emigration zone but, recently, both return migration and international migration has acquired relevance, in addition to the increase of regional migration. Finally, it analyzes the international migration in the region, seeking to delimit their number and location and to understand their population profile, inserting it in the national dynamics.
