Resumen

RODRIGUEZ JAVIQUE, Daylín C.. Recent demographic trends of Cubans in the United States. A study from the American Community Survey. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.28, pp.214-223.  Epub 24-Mayo-2019. ISSN 1817-4078.

From the databases of the American Community Survey available on the IPUMS site, the behavior of the population of Cubans in the United States in the period 2000-2014 is analyzed. Calculating a weighted average of the population in the period and dividing by place of residence into two groups: those living in Florida and those living outside Florida, we analyze some variables that characterize Cubans residing in the United States. On the other hand, more up-to-date information is presented showing the status for 2016 of Cubans residing in the United States, according to their distribution by sex and age. In addition to this analysis in 2016, there is a brief evolution that presents a general update from 2001, which considers the years 2015 and 2016, years that in the first part of the work by variables are not shown. Likewise, the annual growth rates of said population and the behavior of Cubans entering that country from 2001 onwards are calculated. The work is descriptive and aims to have an approximation to the demographic behavior of Cubans in the United States. The objective of obtaining inputs for future research. The novelty lies in working with a database developed from an annual survey that is applied to replace the census in the United States and that can be a source of important information in the work of Cuban migrants in that country.

Palabras clave : annual growth rate; Cubans in the United States; international migration; sex and age distribution.
