The updating of the Cuban economic and social model in 2010 promoted the development of self-employment as an alternative to the reduction of state employment in the country. As a result, a big number of small private businesses entrepreneurship in the different economic activities approved have spread. In some cases, it is noteworthy the importance of the transnational connections or networks established between Cuban émigrés and their relatives and friends on the Island, for the creation and management of this private ventures. The instrumental role of these transnational social networks is demonstrated through the flow of economic and socio-cultural remittances that circulates with an investment or family support purpose.
This article aims to show the investigative results of a multiple case study carried out in 2017, which its prime objective was to analyze the role played by transnational social networks in which a group of private landlords renting in foreign currencies participate, for the creation and/or development of their small business entrepreneurship, in Plaza de la Revolución municipality.
