MORALES CHUCO, Elaine. Meanings and social perceptions of social exclusion in adolescents from Havana. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.34, pp. 354-383. Epub 01-Dez-2021. ISSN 1817-4078.
The article presents reflections on the meanings and perceptions of social exclusion found in various groups of adolescents in the Cuban capital. It is based on an empirical research, carried out with qualitative methodology and concluded in 2018. The exposed considerations refer to the accumulation of symbols that make exclusion visible in current Cuban society, and its importance in these ages; rejections and perceived discrimination are characterized according to frequency, channels of expression, adjudicated causes, spaces of occurrence, traits of the people involved and possible consequences of exposure to exclusion. The conclusions show the extension of the perceptions of exclusion in the studied groups, with a predominance of school bullying ―subtle or overt― against the background of different inequalities, asymmetries of power and conflict of identities. Disqualifications are settled in different spaces of socialization, with a predominance of the school setting where exclusion is excluded, exclusion is received and there is also silent complicity.
