BARCENAS ALFONSO, Jany; MARTIN FERNANDEZ, Consuelo; PENA PINO, Isachy  y  ROBAINA FIGUEROA, Melissa. The multiple returns: psychosocial study on return migration to Cuba. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2022, vol.18, n.35, pp.1-21.  Epub 16-Jun-2022. ISSN 1817-4078.

From the theoretical-methodological references of Social Psychology, the present study focused on the international migratory return. An innovative perspective was intended for the transformation of the conception of return practices to Cuba. This work aimed to describe the main characteristics of the return migration process to Cuba; explore the motivations to return; and to develop a multidimensional return typology that would respond to the identified configurations of return experiences and practices. A mixed methodology was used where the statistical analysis of the official data obtained with the 22 case studies carried out was complemented. It was obtained as a result that the characteristics of the resettled describe a profile of mostly young and adult returnees; more men than women; residents in all the provinces of the country, with a greater concentration in the capital; and mainly from the US. In addition, it was found that the multiple experiences of return to Cuba go beyond the resettlement process, which shows the complexity of the phenomenon. The motivations to return are varied, among them was the programming of the project; family reasons; health conditions; education; maladjustment, among others. A multidimensional return typology was developed that recognizes and integrates the diversity of return experiences and practices that enhance the maintenance of ties with the country of origin. Favorable and unfavorable perceptions about return were identified, conditioned by factors such as personal experience, the characteristics of the migratory project and personal and family strategies.

Palabras clave : return migration; psychosocial approach to international migratory return.
