RAMOS MONTEAGUDO, Ana María  e  YORDI GARCIA, Mirtha Juliana. Relevance of intergenerational links for the promotion of active aging. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2025, vol.21, n.41, pp. 27-49.  Epub 02-Fev-2025. ISSN 1817-4078.

Active aging is a priority issue on the public agenda of the Cuban government, to which the social sciences must contribute knowledge that favors this intention, in the face of the challenges of demographic aging.

The proposal presented has in its foundations; the recognition of the autonomy and competencies of older people. Particularly, it supports the promotion of active aging as a key strategy to prevent situations of dependency, promote the inclusion of older people, reconfigure their social role and deconstruct misleading imaginaries about old age. Which is an aspect to consider when paying attention to demographic dynamics in the local development strategy.

This is an intergenerational experience of the Chair of the Elderly (CUAM) of the University of Camagüey. The proposal is focused on promoting active aging through intergenerational links between young university students, schoolchildren and older adults from CUAM classrooms in the territory. It favors the educational process of the youngest and the social inclusion of the elderly. The results contribute to socially resignify the elderly as transmitters of values and experiences to the younger generations, being an important educational and training reference. It is a proposal that has been republished annually since 2015, it incorporates the voices of the elderly involved, this makes it possible to validate their acceptance and contribution to the alternative solutions that are required to address the challenges of demographic aging in the territory.
