The article addresses the impact of demographic aging on labor resources in the province of Holguin, located in eastern Cuba, and in turn on the socioeconomic development of the region. The topic is of great relevance, since the demographic aging that the country has experienced in recent decades, with profound economic, social, cultural, political and general implications in all areas, poses crucial challenges for the sustainable development of the territories and also has a significant impact on the labor structure, creating greater pressure on the social security system and the local economy. Using a quantitative analysis based on statistical data from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Cuba between the years 2000 and 2021, an analysis of labor resources in the province of Holguín and their relationship with population aging is presented. The research provides relevant information for policy makers that requires adequate measures to address these challenges and take advantage of the potential of the elderly for the opportunity it represents in the development of the territories.
