We conducted a retrospective descriptive research to provide objective scientific evidence on the impact of hip fracture in elderly patients, operated, followed in outpatient Hospital "Fructuoso Rodriguez" in Havana, from July 2008 to June 2009. The results were: The ability to perform basic activities of daily living was assessed with the Katz Index, resulting in the largest number of patients with moderate disability followed by severe. Only a figure close to a quarter of the elderly was not limited. To determine functional capacity, based on the activities implemented, the Lawton index was used, resulting in a reduction in the full group. Predominantly classified elderly with a high dependency, followed by those with severe dependency. The negative consequences with families internal crises predominate, as well as disruption of the caregiver.
