The use of scientific papers in the literature references related to the willingness of the authors to use the newest advances that correspond to the research topic in which they can influence subjective elements on the quality of citations by country of origin and ease of access in different repositories and databases; with the aim of knowing the Cuban contributions related to rheumatic diseases in our biomedical journals, appointments included were reviewed in the references of 57 articles retrieved from medical journals located in the Virtual Library of Health during 2014, to identify the number of documents from Cuba compared to those in other countries; A total of 1161 quotes from different sections of which 110 originated in our country accounting for 9.48 % were recorded, the little use of national scientific documents that were used as references in the articles reviewed was evident.
