RIOS-FLOREZ, Jorge Alexander; ESCUDERO-CORRALES, Carolina y LOPEZ-GUTIERREZ, Claudia Rocío. Neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological manifestations of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Rev Cuba Reumatol [online]. 2018, vol.20, n.1, pp. 1-29. ISSN 1817-5996. http://dx.doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1174909.
The objective of this research was to determine the neuropsychological and neuropsychiatric sequelae associated with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. A comparative-correlational analysis design was proposed, in a study of 68 individuals, a clinical group consisted of 34 patients diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and the control with 34 people in an even condition to each patient, in relation to age, gender and degree. The entire profile of neurocognitive functioning and emotional and behavioral psychiatric symptoms associated with depression and anxiety were analyzed, correlated to variables such as age, time of onset development of the symptoms of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and the time of diagnosis after the onset of symptoms. The results suggest patterns of neuropsychiatric pathology characteristic of depression and anxiety disorders such as comorbidity and not as a sequel to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. No difficulties in recognizing complex emotions. With short and long term verbal memory deficit for extensive contents, short and long term visual memory failures. They did not show commitment in processes of comprehension or verbal fluency. With alteration in executive functions, mainly monitoring and regulation of behavior. Failures in attentional processes in patients with depressive symptoms; Those who have anxiety have altered the speed of information processing. The Systemic Lupus Erythematosus as autoimmune pathology functionally affects not only the quality of life of the patient and their daily life at motor level, it also entails a neuropsychological deterioration profile that is associated to the moment of symptom manifestation and to the time that has elapsed until the diagnosis was established, from which the intensity and evolution of neurofunctional deterioration derive.
