PENA-MUNANTE, Gonzalo; LUCAR-FLORES, Miriam; SANCHEZ-CALDERON, Javier e CORTA-TAPIA, Diego. Fibromyalgia knowledge in a sample of adults from Peru and Spain. Rev Cuba Reumatol [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.4 Epub 01-Dez-2023. ISSN 1817-5996.
Fibromyalgia is a multidimensional rheumatologic disease that can be a cause of confusion for some patients and those around them, especially when it comes to the proper management of symptoms. Therefore, knowledge about the disease can be very helpful in improving the quality of life of these patients. The aim of the present study was to compare the knowledge of fibromyalgia in a cross-cultural Peruvian and Spanish sample. A total of 248 adults from both countries participated, who were administered an online questionnaire to obtain information on general knowledge of the disease and its treatment. Inferential analyzes were performed with the SPSS statistical program. The results indicated the existence of significant differences in both types of knowledge according to sex, country of residence, health status, and direct contact with patients. It is concluded that the knowledge of the disease is greater in women, in Spanish adults, in those who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and in those who have a person with this diagnosis in their close environment.
