Introduction:

Urinary incontinence is a condition that occurs mainly in women over 40 years of age; affects people's health status; In the case of women, its main cause is pelvic floor disorders, so improving the state of the pelvic floor muscles is vital to minimize the effects of urinary incontinence.

Objective:

To evaluate the effectiveness of rehabilitative treatment, based on performing exercises aimed at pelvic strengthening, in women with urinary incontinence.

Methodology:

Basic, descriptive, retrospective and field research that included as a universe a total of 87 women with urinary incontinence treated in the rehabilitation service of the General Teaching Hospital of Riobamba during the year 2022. The sample was made up of 72 patients to whom. The defined exercises were applied to strengthen the pelvic floor.

Results:

average age of 60.57 years, with a history of instrumental deliveries and with chronic communicable diseases (56.94 %). 45.83 % of the cases reported moderate incontinence in terms of frequency and 48.61 % reported moderate incontinence in terms of intensity. Vaginal discomfort, as well as the frequency and intensity of incontinence were the elements reported as having the greatest improvement after performing pelvic floor exercises.

Conclusions:

Physical rehabilitation is the only viable option for strengthening the pelvic floor muscles; Only in this way can urinary incontinence be improved first and subsequently controlled.
