Introduction:

systemic lupus erythematosus is an inflammatory, systemic and chronic disease that is expressed with a varied range of extra-articular manifestations. Among them, dermatological manifestations have a high relevance both in the diagnosis and in the monitoring of the clinical evolution of the disease.

Objective:

to point out the main dermatological manifestations that occur in patients diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Methods:

basic, descriptive and retrospective research. Universe of 67 and sample finally constituted by 58 cases. The research was carried out in the period June 2020 - December 2022 in the rheumatology outpatient clinic of the Andino Hospital of Chimborazo. The patients' medical records were reviewed to obtain the necessary information.

Results:

average age of 46.53 years with a predominance of patients between 40 and 49 years (36.21 %), female (96.55 %) and with disease evolution time between 1 and 5 years (55 .17 %). Previous diagnosis of dermatological manifestations was identified in 89.66 % of patients. Malar rash (69.05 %) and alopecia (16.17 %) were the specific dermatological manifestations that had been diagnosed most frequently. There was a predominance of patients with a low level of knowledge about the importance of sun protection.

Conclusions:

Malar rash and alopecia are the specific clinical manifestations of lupus that are most frequently identified as part of the extra-articular manifestations of rheumatic diseases. They are important both for the diagnosis and for the clinical monitoring of the disease.
