Introduction:
Nutritional status disorders due to excess constitute one of the main health problems worldwide. University students constitute a vulnerable group to the appearance of nutritional disorders since they are exposed to different situations and socioeconomic, cultural and political factors among others that threaten an adequate nutritional regimen. In this sense, it is necessary to maintain adequate eating practices to minimize the risk of the appearance of nutritional disorders due to excess.
Objective:
to identify eating practices in overweight and obese university students.
Methodology:
For them, a basic, non-experimental, descriptive, field and cross-sectional investigation was carried out aimed at obtaining information on eating practices of university students of the Technology in Health Care Services career of the Riobamba Higher Technological Institute.
Results:
Average age of 20.54 years with a predominance of female students (60.52 %) and overweight (71.05 %). In 21.5 % of the cases, the presence of comorbidities was identified, where arterial hypertension (50.00 %) was the one with the greatest presence. Inadequate eating practices were identified in 65.79 % of the students.
Conclusions:
The eating practices of the overweight and obese students analyzed are mostly inadequate. It is necessary to implement the proposed educational guide in order to combat overweight and obesity with adequate eating practices.
