Ultrasonography plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of several conditions including the musculoskeletal system and autoimmune-rheumatic disorders. In recent years, the introduction of new techniques such as special high-frequency linear probes and the application of color Power Doppler, among other modalities, has allowed a new approach in terms of its use and application with wide diffusion among rheumatologists.
It has become a very important tool in the diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis, monitoring activity, response to the therapy used, as well as a guide to carry out interventions. EULAR, determined to create a task force aimed at evaluating the contents for, teaching and training medical professionals who want to develop in USM techniques, to care for patients with rheumatic conditions and MSE.
In Cuba we developed the first international US course for rheumatologists about 20 years ago with Prof. Bouffard, Walter Emory and prof. Pineda from the US and Mexico, as results today we have experts in this important area. Key areas of the current enormous development of US are not only regional and soft tissue rheumatism, but Osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis, detection of erosions, enthesitis, seronegative arthropathy, Arthritis due to crystal deposits and skin studies in systemic sclerosis. The board of the National Group and the Cuban Society of Rheumatology that we lead today, has taken very seriously the importance of disseminating, developing and systematizing this technique and amplifying its use among the Cubans rheumatologist. Particulary between young rheumatologists, and additionally to promoting their inclusions in the academic curricular training of rheumatology residents in the context of the new development plan towards 2026 that indicated us to develop the ministers of public health of Cuba. (MINSAP) and which we are implementing.
