MANZANO CALERO, Stalin Modesto e SOLIS CARTAS, Urbano. Physiotherapeutic ema in rheumatic patients with temporomandibular disorders due to bruxism. Rev Cuba Reumatol [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.4 Epub 01-Dez-2023. ISSN 1817-5996.
Temporomandibular disorders are common in patients with rheumatic diseases. They are characterized by inflammatory pain and involvement of the periarticular muscles. These disorders are associated with the presence of bruxism, which affects the quality of life and the functional capacity of the affected people. The objective of this research was to describe the therapeutic practices that are part of the therapeutic scheme of rheumatic patients diagnosed with bruxism. For this, a basic, descriptive and cross-sectional investigation was carried out; consisting of carrying out a bibliographical review that included as a universe a total of 79 documents published in the last 5 years. The sample was confirmed by a total of 32 documents related to the use of physical therapy and rehabilitation in rheumatic patients diagnosed with bruxism. The information search included the use of health descriptors and Boolean operators and included documents published in high-impact (Scopus, Medline, PubMed, and Ice Web) and regional (Scielo, Latindex, Redalyc, and Lilacs) databases. The main results describe the different techniques or procedures used in the treatment of bruxism, as well as their therapeutic effect based on the 3 therapeutic objectives of the disease. It is concluded that physiotherapeutic exercises are reported as a fundamental part of the therapeutic schemes for bruxism in patients with rheumatic diseases. Its indication facilitates the relief of pain, as well as the improvement of the opening of the oral cavity and the mobility of the joint.
