GONZALEZ GAVILEMA, Natali Belén e MERA HERRERA, Viviana del Roció. Myths and truths from a cultural approach in newborn care. Rev Cuba Reumatol [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.4 Epub 01-Dez-2023. ISSN 1817-5996.
The newborn demands a series of necessary care to maintain its adequate state of health and to warn of the presence of abnormal conditions that could mean a complication. After birth, the traditional recommendations and customs regarding the care of the newborn are transmitted from mothers to children, for generations, within the same family. The stated objective was to analyze the scientific evidence related to myths and truths from a cultural approach in newborn care. A basic, non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional and documentary research was carried out consisting of a bibliographic review where the study universe consisted of a total of 89 documents, of which 37 were part of the study. THE review included the use of health descriptors and Boolean operators; It focused on the search for information published in journals indexed in high-impact databases such as Medline, Scopus, PubMed and Ice Web of Science and in regional databases such as Scielo, Latindex, Lilac and Redalyc among others. The main results include the analysis of customs and traditions related to newborn care and the role played by nursing professionals in the cultural approach to newborn care. It is concluded that the cultural approach to newborn care is based on the combination of cultural and traditional elements with scientifically proven actions. There are traditions that must be modified since they potentiate health risks.
