Progressive chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that causes irreversible obstruction in the airways, airflow, and respiratory muscles. In the present investigation, the results of a systematic bibliographic review on the most used therapeutic schemes and exercises in older adult patients with respiratory muscle involvement due to progressive chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are presented, including changes in the respiratory system and related etiopathogenic mechanisms of progressive chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. with respiratory muscle involvement. The objective is to identify the most frequently used exercises and therapeutic schemes for respiratory muscle training in older adults with progressive chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Twenty-two studies published in Scielo, Redalyc and PubMed, Science Direct and the Google academic search engine were included in the sample. The main contributions consist of the exercises most used in the training of the respiratory muscles of older adults with progressive chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and the reasons why they are used more frequently. In conclusion, changes occur in older adults that alter the respiratory apparatus and muscles as a result of the aging process. progressive chronic obstructive pulmonary disease makes you more vulnerable. A therapeutic exercise program can improve respiratory muscle function and COPD symptoms. The IMT is shown to be the most used type of exercise and reports beneficial effects on different physiological parameters.
