EXPOSITO LARA, Alexander; SANCHEZ CHAVEZ, Roberto Fabián; FERIA DIAZ, Gisela Eduarda  e  HUARACA MOROCHO, Brigette Carolina. Telemedicine, between legality and ethics. Rev Cuba Reumatol [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.4  Epub 01-Dez-2023. ISSN 1817-5996.

The COVID-19 pandemic transformed many elements of human behavior. The transformations were present in all spheres of social life and the health sector was one of the most affected. Due to the demand for assistance and the clinical characteristics of COVID-19, the figure of telemedicine emerged as an alternative to medical assistance. The objective of this research is to characterize telemedicine from the legal framework and ethical aspects. A tour is made of the legal references that justify telemedicine as a form of health care. Additionally, the ethical implications of medicine that may affect the doctor-patient relationship are analyzed. It is concluded that telemedicine emerges as an alternative to health care at a critical time and with high demand for medical care; However, despite there being legal references that justify it, there are elements that move away from medical ethics related to patient care based on the clinical method as the central axis of medical action.

Palavras-chave : medical assistance; health care; medical ethics; telemedicine.
