The objective of this study is to analyze the current situation of the social function of the education through a bibliographic review. It also specifies the theoretical insufficiencies related to the social role of educational professionals and educational contexts and the theoretical inadequacies related to the social role of the professionals of the education in educational contexts. For that reason, in this work, it is proposed to offer a review of the main conceptions and approaches about the social function of education. Theoretical methods such as analytical and synthetic were used in order to decompose the contents of the social function: education, school and teacher, as well as for the synthesis of the main results of the bibliographical review. The main results are based on presenting an assessment about the current situation of the social function and its contents. It was verified that it is based on achieving a transformation in correspondence with the current demands of the society. The analyzed studies start considering the social function from the dialectical relationship between education and society. It underlies in its proposed functions related to the preparation of the students towards their future profession and towards a citizen civic culture. The inadequate treatment of the social role of professionals of education could be observed; since they are those who carry out the mentioned function from their professional contexts.
