The study analyzes the role of formative evaluation in the renewal of teaching and learning processes in Higher Education, in particular the theoretical and methodological referents that, within the scope of the Project "The Network of Communities for the Renewal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (RECREA), whose general objective is the formation of communities and networks of academics oriented to the innovation of teaching practices, tendencies that exist about the curricular renewal that must exist in the processes of teaching and learning of Higher Education. Formative evaluation is considered as a learning assessment approach, which refers to a systematic process of retrieving data on student learning and performance, from various sources of evidence; it is focused on processes, rather than on results; it is interested in students being responsible for their own learning and it is conceived as a means to achieve and integrate knowledge, with sense and meaning.
