En los estudios literarios actuales la cuestión del espacio crece en importancia para la ciencia literaria. Es visible ya la atención respecto a la utilidad de la categoría espacial en el género narrativo. Evidente si se tiene en cuenta que ha aumentado, la diversidad de textos que aluden al funcionamiento de la espacialidad, con mayor énfasis en el contexto europeo y latinoamericano en las últimas décadas. No obstante, la insuficiencia de perspectivas metodológicas se manifiesta en la configuración del espacio en una obra literaria; en desventaja respecto a categorías como el tiempo, los personajes o el narrador en tal sentido. Uno de los retos actuales en el estudio de la dimensión espacial es la de establecerse en los campos de análisis de investigadores, críticos y estudiosos de textos literarios, a partir del papel que ocupa en la construcción de la estructura de la obra y en la relación con los demás elementos narrativos. Desde este posicionamiento, el presente artículo pretende mostrar la evolución de la categoría del espacio y su importancia en la literatura.

In the literary studies of XXI century, the space is very important for the literary science. The attention of the space category is visible in the narrative gender. The diversity of texts that mention the operation of the space are more frequent in the last decades in the European and Latin American context. The inadequacy of methodological perspectives is manifested in the configuration of the space on literary work; it is fewer studied regarding categories like the time, the characters or the narrator. One of the current challenges in the study of the space dimension is the stand out on the fields of investigators' analysis, critical and studious of literary texts. The present work seeks to show the evolution of the space and its importance in the literature.
