Environmental education for local development is a term currently used from the view of integrating contextualized knowledge. The objective of this work is to assess the epistemological foundations for environmental education in local development. Theoretical methods have been used: logical history and synthetic analysis and from the empirical, document analysis and diagnosis. The fundamental results are associated to distinguish environmental education associated with the local conception because it is in this dimension that actions can be developed in order to achieve social changes where society participates with all its factors involved in this vital need for human life. It can be concluded in this research that the epistemological foundations associated with environmental education sustained in local development, have been addressed from the main sources that work this research object.
