El papel del sistema educativo en una sociedad es innegable, este define el progreso económico y social de la misma, el propósito debe ser la formación de talento humano con visión científica y humanista capaz de enfrentarse al mundo moderno. Sin embargo, a pesar de que actualmente se ha reconfigurado el rol de las Instituciones de Educación Superior el bienestar estudiantil a lo largo de la historia ha estado supeditado al mero apoyo estudiantil o prestación de servicios mínimos de salud, actualmente se espera sea un área integral, que no solo vea los problemas sociales o facilite acceso a crédito, sino también que promueva el respeto a los derechos, brinde servicios asistenciales, que se evite la deserción estudiantil. No siendo un tema de amplio estudio el presente trabajo investigativo, histórico documental, se desarrolló con el propósito de analizar las reformas en materia de Educación Superior que ha realizado Ecuador, y su impacto en el bienestar estudiantil. Como resultado, se pudo comprobar que las principales reformas que introdujeron cambios significativos en la concepción del bienestar estudiantil en el ámbito de la Educación Superior se dieron en 1967, 1998 y 2008, evolucionando de un enfoque asistencial a un enfoque integral e inclusivo.

The role of the educational system in a society is undeniable, it defines the economic and social progress of the same, and the purpose must be the formation of human talent with scientific and humanistic vision capable of facing the modern world. However, although the role of Higher Education Institutions has been reconfigured at present, student well-being throughout history has been subordinated to mere student support or provision of minimum health services, currently, it is expected to be an integral area, that not only sees social problems or facilitates access to credit, but also that promotes respect for rights, provides assistance services that student desertion is avoided. Not being a subject of extensive study, the present investigative, historical documentary work was developed with the purpose of analyzing the reforms in higher education that Ecuador has made, and its impact on student well-being. As a result, it was found that the main reforms that introduced significant changes in the conception of student well-being in the field of Higher Education occurred in 1967, 1998 and 2008, evolving from a well-being approach to a comprehensive and inclusive approach.
