IGLESIAS MONTERO, Gerardo; MARTINEZ IGLESIAS, Marisol Isabel  y  SANCHEZ QUINTERO, Maricely. Geographic space and heritage. Limitations for its management in municipalities of Cienfuegos. Conrado [online]. 2019, vol.15, suppl.1, pp.52-59.  Epub 02-Dic-2019. ISSN 2519-7320.

The twentieth century has marked for the social sciences an unprecedented attention to the geographical space category, while these correspond to provide sufficient analysis tools to understand and explain social reality. The consensus grows that the geographical space exceeds the physical-natural aspect to reveal its social nature. This crystallizes in the diversity of social practices (economic, political, cultural) that intervene in its modeling. These human actions are produced on the landscape by multiple collective and individual agents, whose imprint is the image of a technique, an ethic and therefore an aesthetic of a specific time. Explaining the geographical space is only possible over time, in order to capture the successive temporary occupation of the landscape, reflecting the superposition of material and cultural results. From this temporal space relationship, heritage results as a record, the result of human experience, so understanding heritage goes through the understanding of geographical space, particularized in the place. The active involvement of the main social actors will facilitate the management of heritage for local development, for which the territory is identified as an active subject of development and must make use of its cognitive, social, ecosystem and infrastructure wealth. The conception of the geographical space as a social construction where participatory management is a mediation in local development, constitutes the objective of the evaluation of the use of heritage wealth in municipalities of the territory of Cienfuegos.

Palabras clave : Geographical space; geographical heritage; participatory management; local development.
