The objective of the work is to describe the main processes that take place in the international relations department of the University of Cienfuegos, as well as the theoretical bases that underlie them. To achieve the next objective, a study was made of the theory that defines the following concepts: information system, higher education, internationalization of higher education, international relations, among others. The main results to be achieved through research are: Better understanding of the functioning of the internal processes that take place in the department of international relations, as well as a characterization of them, explicitly describing the main bases of charge for each of these processes, lay the theoretical foundations that facilitate the design of an information system in the future.
