This work refers to a strategy, based on a Diploma Program of University Teaching (DDU, by its acronym in Spanish) at the University of Cienfuegos (UCf), which was developed through stages and phases. Scientific methods from the theoretical, empirical and statistical-mathematical levels were used, enabling to diagnose the training needs of teachers at the University of Cienfuegos. The information was obtained for eight years, from the direct and indirect protagonists who participated in the above-mentioned training. The research carried out showed that the diploma program helped to strengthen the training actions in the teachers, encourage collaborative work, and find alternatives to improve the way to achieve practical results from the theory, in correspondence with the institutional needs. The objective of the proposal is to evaluate the impact of the DDU on the updating of knowledge, skills and values in teachers, and its contribution to strengthening the modes of action they require to transform the educational reality, under the conditions of the current Cuban University context, based on the premise that they are teachers in the first place.
