El desarrollo de la ciencia y la técnica impone una revisión de conceptos que deben ajustarse a las evidencias que surgen de los avances de la propia ciencia. Cuando hablamos de ciencias se puede hacer alusión al campo de la Estomatología, su desarrollo ha generado sub- especialidades como la Ortodoncia, con características específicas que se ocupa del ser humano en aspectos biológicos y sociales. La tecnología mantiene a la práctica ortodóncica y su educación, interesante y novedosa, pero siempre debemos recordar al paciente. Es nuestro deber brindar la mejor atención posible y hacerla disponible y accesible para toda la sociedad. En el presente trabajo nos proponemos exponer la importancia de aplicar los conocimientos y avances científico técnicos en la Ortodoncia, pero siempre desde una perspectiva adecuada a la realidad social en que se desarrolla tanto el profesional como el paciente, con el fin de elevar la calidad de vida de la población. Para su realización se consultaron varias publicaciones y sitios web de los cuales 27 constituyen la bibliografía. Con el presente estudio concluimos que en ortodoncia nuestra posición debe ser afrontar los nuevos cambios científicos y técnicos, pero hacerlo desde unos principios y valores éticos demostrando calidad profesional y personal para que su impacto social sea positivo.

The development of science and technology imposes a review of concepts that must conform to the evidence that arises from the advances of science itself. When we talk about science, we can refer to the field of Stomatology, its development has generated sub-specialties such as Orthodontics, with specific characteristics that the human being deals with in biological and social aspects. Technology maintains orthodontic practice and its education, interesting and novel, but we must always remember the patient. It is our duty to provide the best possible care and make it available and accessible to the whole society. In this paper we propose to expose the importance of applying scientific knowledge and technical advances in Orthodontics but always from an appropriate perspective to the social reality in which it develops both the professional and the patient, in order to raise the quality of life of the population. For its realization, several publications and websites of which 27 constitute the bibliography were consulted. With the present study we conclude that in orthodontics our position must face the new scientific and technical changes, but do so from ethical principles and values showing professional and personal quality so that its social impact is positive.
