The training of research skills in students is one of the transcendental objectives in contemporary Higher Education. The objective of this work is to show the investigative competences through the use of technological tools in the subject Research Methodology in the students of the career of Agronomy of the Technical University of Cotopaxi, extension of the Maná in Ecuador. The research followed an exploratory descriptive approach, with a non-experimental design and the sample consisted of 25 students. The survey was used as a technique, the questionnaire was used as a tool and the SPSS program was used for the statistical analysis. The results indicate that 80% of the students used Google to manage information, which is not an optimal way to obtain reliable scientific sources. The virtual forums are reliable spaces for academic discussions and favor the development of critical thinking of students. This experience allows us to conclude the need to use specialized strategies in the investigative processes, which pay to raise a greater culture in the students and allow them to develop in a more effective way this competence, which is closely related to the efficient use of technologies.
