En el artículo se persigue establecer el grado de relación entre la competencia comunicativa intercultural y el rendimiento académico en estudiantes de lenguas extranjeras. El enfoque aplicado fue el cuantitativo, método descriptivo y diseño correlacional. Se conformó la muestra con 280 estudiantes, a quienes se les aplicó un cuestionario para la recolección de datos de la primera variable y las notas finales de las asignaturas de especialidad para la segunda variable. Los resultados demuestran que la relación entre las variables es de grado positivo débil, según la prueba estadística Rho de Spearman con el valor de 0,172. La competencia comunicativa intercultural cognitiva, comportamental o afectiva, entonces, no interfiere en el aprendizaje de lenguas extranjeras, debido a que el resultado obtenido en cada una de estas dimensiones es, igualmente, positivo débil.

In the article the aim is to establish the degree of relationship between intercultural communicative competence and academic performance in foreign language students. The approach applied was quantitative, descriptive method and correlational design. The sample was formed with 280 students. A questionnaire was applied to collect data of the first variable and the final notes of the specialty subjects for the second variable. The results show that the relationship between the variables is of weak positive degree, according to the statistical test of Spearman Rho, with the value of 0,172. Cognitive, behavioural or affective intercultural communicative competence do not, therefore, interfere with the learning of foreign languages, because the result obtained in each of these dimensions es, equally, weak positive.
