HUERA CASTRO, Denisse Elizabeth et al. Dignity in old age: a right or a privilege?. []. , 17, 78, pp. 157-165.   02--2021. ISSN 1990-8644.

Within the concept of life cycle, old age is presented as another stage of the life cycle, since this concept implies a segmentation of life in successive phases. From this perspective it is assumed, then, that we all go through the same stages and that each one of them is characterized by certain pre-established issues. Currently, the concept of stage is being abandoned and the concept of "life course" is being accepted instead. This concept is less regularized and standardized and is defined by the experiences of each subject in a singular way and with a more personal historical anchorage. When speaking of the course of life, a process of continuity and change is evoked, with certain internal norms. This is why one must resort to human rights, which progressively dominate the relationship of the person with power. Their universal recognition and protection represent an ethical and legal revaluation of the human being as a planet's inhabitant rather than a State's inhabitant. Now, when we refer to dignity, we immediately understand that it is a value inherent to every human being, which does not end with a decision by another human being.

: Dignity; old age; human rights.
