Postgraduate education has as essential objectives the academic training and continuous improvement of university graduates, throughout their professional lives. The research responds to the need to train doctors of science due to the insufficient number of doctors at the University of Medical Sciences of Havana. It is objective. From the work, to present and preliminarily validate a professional improvement program as a way for doctoral training aimed at health professionals from the “Enrique Cabrera” Faculty of Medical Sciences and the health institutions of the territory. Methodology. With a mixed approach from a dialectical position of the investigation through a descriptive cross-sectional study. The professional development program was designed as a way for doctoral training based on the stages of curricular planning, learning needs, and was preliminarily validated by specialists' criteria. The professional improvement program as a way for doctoral training constitutes a possible solution for centers and organizations whose purpose is professional improvement at the highest level.
