The research was proposed with the objective of proposing the implementation of an Argumentative Essay Program (ENARI) to strengthen investigative competencies in fifth grade high school students from an educational institution in Catacaos, in Piura (Peru). It was developed from the quantitative approach, propositional descriptive modality and simple descriptive cross-sectional design. A sample of 96 students was selected, who were administered a questionnaire that measured five research competencies. In the results, it was determined that a little more than half of the students (54.2%) have a low level of investigative competences, presenting greater difficulty in the competencies to collect and analyze data (57.3%), to propose a research problem (56.2%) and to interpret results (55.2%). Based on these results, a didactic program was designed based on the elaboration of an argumentative essay that systematized, in fifteen learning workshops, formative experiences of planning, textualization and argumentative textual evaluation, integrating in each one, meaningful activities so that the students learn to observe, pose a problem, collect and analyze data, interpret results, and write. It was concluded that the ENARI Program constitutes a didactic strategy that helps to constructively strengthen investigative competencies in secondary education students.
