The modern teaching-learning process (PEA) in Cuba is intentionally created to provoke intellectual and moral development. The work aims to socialize one of the results obtained by the project "Development of scientific thinking in university students" carried out by the Center for Educational Studies of the University of Ciego de Ávila. It is explained how from the study of theories on critical and scientific thinking, previous methodological theoretical positions on the didactic functions and the links of the PEA and the pedagogical actions of the authors, a proposal of didactic functions for the teaching of pedagogical subjects characterized by for favoring the unity of the PEA with the rest of life, as a way to challenge the learner's personality and encourage the development of their thinking, their independence and their social responsibility, maintaining total adherence to the dialectical materialist theory of knowledge. The idea that is exposed has the endorsement of the practice in which it is applied and from which it has been configured.
