PASALAGUA MARTINEZ, Sandra Itzel y DURAN GONZALEZ, Rosa Elena. Symbolic gender violence in school settings. A literature review. Conrado [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.90, pp. 394-399. Epub 27-Feb-2023. ISSN 1990-8644.
In Mexico, the phenomenon of school violence has increased in recent years, which has generated greater attention and concern by educational authorities and the general population. Although physical or direct violence is identifiable, rejected, sanctioned and can be prevented, a type of symbolic violence persists that is imperceptible or, well, totally legitimate and accepted. It is worth mentioning that, within educational settings, gender plays a fundamental role in the production of practices of symbolic violence, mainly because the school is not perceived as a space where egalitarian relationships are established. Given this, gender becomes a category of analysis within the field of research, specifically due to the social constructions that perpetuate inequalities in the educational and social context. Thus, this work aims to review the research carried out especially in Mexico and Latin America in order to characterize symbolic violence based on gender within academic settings. It is expected that the information collected will be useful to address studies that contribute to reflect on this phenomenon and how it impacts on the development of childhood and adolescence.
