Archieving social or citizen participation in universities is one of the most important current challenges from the pedagogical, social and integral point of view of higher education. This article proposes a reflection on the role played by university students and their commitment to social participation as a component of citizenship education. The objective of the article is to characterize features and contradictions of the process of training and citizen participation, taking into account the flexibility of the curriculum and the training model with contextual characteristics at the Carlos Rafael Rodríguez, university of Cienfuegos. To this end, it first addresses elements on the role of the university and university life, as space that is shaped by specific actors and groups, who define their action and interactions to build and reconstruct the processes of everyday life. In this sense, the Cuban university is contextualized, the vision of civic-citizen education is proposed in a modern context, which is one of the most important sociologists of our time, Zygmunt Bauman (2017), rightly proposes as fluid, changing and liquid in contemporary generations. The impacts is directed in the order scientist to a tool methodological that solve a problem of the territory and in the order social to consolidate the link university-territory.
