It is very easy to point out young people, in any of their formative stages, as lacking in reading and comprehension skills. But we have not asked ourselves where is the origin of this problem. The present work is based on the analysis of the methodological strategies that have been used to encourage the initiation of reading and how these influence the construction of the reading habit of first year elementary school students. The approach with the development environments of children's activities has been key, since their ages are around 4 and 5 years old, so the information from parents, as well as teachers and specialists, has allowed the construction of a different vision, or at least concrete, of how we are shaping reading from basic education, revealing those aspects that may be influencing the low level of reading and comprehension at the different educational-formative levels.
