Citizenship education is an issue that has gained interest in today's societies and mainly in educational institutions, however, citizenship education in the political component is approached from the liberal model associated with the possession of certain individual rights, viewed from a strictly prescriptive and factual point of view, where the citizen-voter occupies a preponderant and central place. The purpose of this article is to analyze and identify studies on the political component of citizenship education in Colombian schools. As part of the methodology, a search for articles indexed in databases such as SCOPUS, SCIELO, DIALNET, among others, was carried out, from which 20 articles published in the last 5 years were selected. It is concluded that, in order to strengthen citizenship education in its political component, it is necessary to start from the recognition of local experiences and knowledge, with the purpose of developing social skills that allow participation in the construction of peaceful, inclusive and democratic societies.
