Resumen

PATINO-YEPEZ, Jhenny Marcela; MALDONADO-NOBOA, Juan Sebastián  y  MALDONADO-NOBOA, Cesar Humberto. Advances in the use of ultra-high-performance concrete in prestressed beams: perspectives from the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. Conrado [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.95, pp. 95-103.  Epub 10-Dic-2023. ISSN 1990-8644.

This article, from the valuable perspective of the scope of the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering of the Catholic University of Cuenca, delves into the world of Ultra High Performance Concrete, also known as UHPC for its acronym in English. This cutting-edge material is distinguished by its extraordinary compressive strength and remarkable ductility, in stark contrast to traditional concrete. The central objective of this research is to conduct a comprehensive literature review that addresses various dimensions of the application of UHPC in bridges. This includes the analysis of practical experiences, the identification of substantial advantages in its implementation and the exploration of the specific obstacles faced in the particular context of our region. Additionally, it seeks to shed light on the effectiveness of UHPC in comparison with conventional materials, such as traditional concrete, considering economic, environmental and structural factors. This analysis will provide a more complete view of the investment in UHPC in terms of durability, sustainability and maintenance of bridges. Finally, the most recent research related to the dosage of UHPC mixes is reviewed, contributing to a better understanding of how to optimize its composition for optimal performance in prestressed beams.
