Resumen
COLOMA CALLE, Erika del Rocío y PUEBLA RAMOS, Lorenzo. University study on the efficacy of bone-supported maxillary expansion with miniscrews in young adults. Conrado [online]. 2024, vol.20, suppl.1, pp. 240-248. Epub 20-Oct-2024. ISSN 1990-8644.
Initially, miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion focused on being applied before the growth spurt, i.e. in the prepubertal growth stage. In recent years this technique has been used in the treatment of maxillary deficiency in young adults. The literature is reviewed regarding the use of miniscrews in rapid palatal expansion applied in young adults. The literature was selected by searching the following electronic databases: Pubmed, lilacs, Scopus, Cochrane, Google Academic, epistemonikos. The keywords used were: maxilla; expansion; minimplants; adults. The search was restricted to articles without language limitation published since March 2013. After applying the inclusion criteria a total of 21 articles were obtained and reviewed. The available literature revealed that age is not a determining factor in the level of ossification of the midpalatal suture for the choice of a MARPE technique.
