At the end of the eighteenth century, the Economic Society of Friends of the country of Havana was founded, a social institution created at the request of illustrious Cuban personalities and intellectuals interested in solving the problems and the delay existing in Cuba. From its beginnings, its objectives were aimed at promoting the economic and sociocultural development of the island. To achieve this aim, they are founded in some of the economically important regions, the so-called patriotic Deputies, considered to be the dependence or filiation of this economic society, which played an important role in each of the regions where were created. That is why this article is aimed at revealing the historical antecedents of the emergence of the Economic Society of Havana and its contribution to the economic and sociocultural development achieved in Cuba during the first half of the nineteenth century. They were used in the research, the methods: historical-logical, analysis-synthesis and inductive-deductive, as well as the revision of historical documents, among others, which allowed to reveal the outstanding work developed by this institution of the time.
