MANUEL CARMO, José. Promoting scientic culture in school: investigations with enzymes. Varona [online]. 2020, n.70, pp.114-119.  Epub 01-Jun-2020. ISSN 0864-196X.

As an in-built part of the science and technology system, education in science must communicate the real activity of scientists and be scientifically valid; promote scientific culture, understood as the development of a personal view of a more just and socially sustainable scientific and technological practice, together with its underlying set of values; develop competencies for intervening effectively and to assume alternative voice, but also to promote the desire to “know about science”. An effective promotion of scientific culture demands a “contextual approach” and a didactic model centred in research and inquiry over concrete situations and needs of a local community. The work describes two experiences of development of educational proposals around the activity of enzymes, from the collaboration between two Science structures: a research group in Biotechnology and a centre for science divulgation, within the framework of post grade programmes in education and in science.
