The article deals with the importance of writing for a students' better performance during the teaching-learning process of English, taking into account the link between 10th, 11th and 12th grade English syllabus objectives and the communicative needs the students should satisfy through writing. Due to the fact that up-dated approaches and methods of foreign language teaching emphasize the development of the communicative competence, the teaching of writing should contribute to the development of that dimension, in other words, to the achievement of that skill. Some experiences and useful suggestions about how to improve the teaching-learning process of writing in a foreign language are offered in the article.
